Juan Lago

From the beginning of his career, the Spanish-born pianist Juan Lago has achieved numerous awards in the leading piano competitions in Spain. Moreover, he has been a Laureate at the XXIII Concorso Internazionale “Valsesia-Musica” in Varallo, Italy; the XX “Cidade de Ferrol” Piano Competition, Spain; the IX Premio

Internazionale Pianistico “A. Scriabin” in Grosseto, Italy; and the VI “Compositores de España” International Competition in Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain.

 

Juan Lago has performed across Europe, America, Asia, and the Middle East as a recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. He has collaborated as a soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana (Italy), the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau (Romania), Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra (Turkey), and the Spanish Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta de Valencia, and Orquesta Filarmónica y Sinfónica de Málaga, under the conductors Ovidiu Balan, José Ramón Encinar, Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, José Luis Martínez, Francisco de Gálvez, Víctor Eloy López o Beatriz Fernández among others.

Lago's performances and master classes have taken place at events such as the  Washington International Piano Festival (Washington, D.C., USA); Festival del Mediterráneo at the Palau de les Arts (Valencia, Spain), under the direction of Zubin Mehta; Talent Music Summer Courses (Brescia, Italy); Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne (Germany); Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK); Festival de Vila-seca (Spain); Alion Baltic International Music Festival (Riga, Latvia); Chetham ́s International Piano Summer School (Manchester, UK); SemaineInternationale Piano et Musique de Chambre (Blonay, Switzerland), Todi International Music Masters (Italy), and International Maestro Piano Festival (Taiwan).

 

As a devoted chamber musician, Juan Lago has collaborated with renowned artists such as violinists Vasco Vassilev, Alissa Margulis, and Santiago Juan; violist Santiago Cantó; cellist Alexander Buzlov; and pianist Belén Navarro.

 

He has delivered lectures at various institutions, including Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal), Gulangyu Conservatory of Xiamen (China), and Latvian Academy of Music in Riga (Latvia).

 

Juan Lago serves as the Founder and Artistic Director of the Campillos International Piano Competition since 2007, the Piano Department Director of the Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival (VIPA), and the Artistic Director of the Malaga International Piano Festival (FIPMA).

 

He frequently participates as a jury member in competitions like Cantù and A. Scriabin (Italy), or James Mottram (Manchester, UK), among many others.

 

Juan Lago has been teaching piano at the “José Iturbi” Conservatory of Valencia, the Talent Music Master Courses University of Brescia, Italy, the Qatar Music Academy and Escuela Superior Musical Arts Madrid. His students have consistently excelled in international and Spanish competitions.

 

Lago holds a Master’s degree in Performance and Musical Research from the Valencian International University; an Artist Diploma from the Amsterdam

Conservatorium, where he studied under the guidance of Professor Jan Wijn; a Bachelor’s degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, where he studied with Professor Ana Guijarro; and a degree from the Conservatorio Superior de Málaga, where he studied with Professor Juan J. Peralta. He has also received master classes from esteemed pianists such as Gyorgy Sebok, Eugen Indjic, Stanislav Pochekin, Imre Rohmann, and Claudio Martínez Mehner.
